Americans United for Separation of Church and State is seeking a Web Developer to assist with the development and upkeep of the online resources of a large-scale advocacy organization. The Web Developer will work closely with the Web Designer to promote church-state separation via the Internet, using cutting-edge Web development technologies and services. The ideal candidate will have strong skills for creating interactive and engaging experiences online, managing backend systems, managing thousands of content items, and helping to overview and guide the entire online presences of Americans United.

The ideal candidate will have experience with Web development and user experience, as well as a keen interest in public policy and strong personal commitment to church-state separation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain content associated with the online presence of the organization.
  • Routinely redesign Web sites to implement emerging technologies.
  • Apply user testing, information architecture and rapid prototyping to improve navigability and accessibility.
  • Use professional multimedia software to develop effective solutions for online communications projects.
  • Manage several ongoing projects in a fast-paced, news-cycle-driven working environment.
  • Help in new media (videos, audio, etc.) communication projects.

Eligibility and Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, computer science or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS and standards-based markup. Experience with designing XHTML emails a plus.
  • Understanding of information architecture and developing a site for multiple audiences using lessons of Edward Tufte and Jared Spool.
  • Knowledge of web-enabled scripting and programming languages, including JavaScript and PHP.
  • Familiarity with content management systems. Experience using Convio CMS or WordPress a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Passion for creativity and innovation.

Compensation

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
