The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Libraries invites applications for the position of Web Designer.
This administrative faculty position, reporting to the Web Technical Support Manager, will provide in-house web and multimedia design/development expertise for the UNLV Libraries. The UNLV Libraries web presence is extensive and currently encompasses the main website (http://www.library.unlv.edu), and associated discovery systems and services, such as digital collections, the library online catalog, and a mobile website. The incumbent is responsible for creating website templates and layouts, producing original web elements (i.e. graphics, icons), and day-to-day web development using the Drupal content management system. The incumbent will present and advocate design ideas as part of the Libraries’ collaborative decision-making processes. The incumbent may also lead or assist in the development of non-web related technologies such as mobile device application development and applications residing on stand-alone touch interface devices (e.g. MS Surface). The incumbent will function as the Libraries’ resource for multimedia expertise and will consult on issues of web usability and accessibility.

Required: A bachelor’s degree in graphic art, computer science or other related field from an accredited college or university; two or more years of related professional experience; knowledge of and expertise with web development, web design standards, and multimedia authoring; experience using development tools such as Dreamweaver, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, and Fireworks. Ability to create mockups, wireframes, and layouts for presentations and committee review. Experience developing sites using HTML and CSS as demonstrated through a portfolio of previous work, both web sites and multimedia. Ability to work with APIs and open-source applications. Experience creating original template and theme designs for content management systems (e.g. Drupal, blogs, wikis). Working knowledge of media file formats, standards, and best practices for web presentation. The incumbent should be detail oriented and comfortable in a collaborative environment involving cross-departmental and cross-disciplinary projects.
Preferred: Front-end development experience utilizing JSON, JQuery, and other client-side processing techniques. Experience with scanning hardware and software and other digitization (video and audio) equipment.
This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track position at Range 2. Salaries are competitive and dependent upon labor market. Position is contingent upon funding.
