GENERAL POSITION OVERVIEW:
Blue State Digital (BSD), a strategic consulting and technology firm, is seeking a talented front-end web developer/designer to join the production team and design and implementation of creative materials for political, non-profit, and responsible corporate clients. Projects include creating compelling sites and advertising projects, developing web applications, building client relationships, and generating industry-specific research. The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, creative and willing to take initiative.

This position is located in the Washington DC office near the McPherson Square Metro Station and reports to the Strategic Production Manager.

JOB RESPONSIBILITES:
• Develop web sites using XHTML and CSS based on mockups and prototype designs
• Use design software to create mockups and html prototypes for new sites
• Design and produce optimized, web-ready graphics
• Create and manage CSS styles and CSS frameworks
• Cross-browser test and troubleshoot site presentation
• Adjust copy and graphics for print and web projects

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
• One year experience in front-end web development and related fields
• Skill with graphic design, page layout, typography and image retouching
• Strong XHTML/CSS skills for cross-browser rendering
• Experience with a major design application (Fireworks or Photoshop)
• Innate creative sensibilities with a high degree of sensitivity to design nuance
• Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
• A desire to learn more about creative and web technologies

DESIRED SKILLS:
• Expression Engine or similar CMS
• Familiarity with online advocacy tools (GetActive, Blue State Digital, Democracy in Action)
• Experience working with Adobe Flash
• Knowledge of the online advocacy/marketing space
• Familiarity with social networking/viral marketing tools
