User Experience Designer
Position Overview & Responsibilities
National Instruments is looking for experienced User Experience Designers who are passionate about detail, innovation and usability. We need designers who enjoy the challenge of translating usage patterns into intuitive interactions and workflows. User Experience (Ux) Designers will work with stakeholders to develop new applications and assist in the continuous improvement of existing ones.
Core Job Responsibilities
-Collaborate with software developers, project managers, and corporate marketing to help define the Ux for new and existing products.
-Evangelize Ux best practices to software engineers.
-Articulate Ux concepts and solutions through scenarios and visualizations.
-Sketch and present Ux concepts including visual design and behaviors with paper sketches, wireframes, task/workflows, and simple working prototypes.
-Participate in user-centered research with customers through focus groups, usage analysis, and rapid prototyping.
-Communicate Ux design solutions to multiple development teams through specifications and similar types of communication documents.
Note: National Instruments does petition for H-1B (H1-B transfer) and TN status for this position.
-Please note that US Customs Law forbids the export of certain technologies to certain countries. Due to licensing requirements which National Instruments does not presently pursue for this position, this regulation effectively prevents National Instruments from hiring candidates for this job (as it would require access to such technology) whose current country of citizenship or permanent residence are Cuba, Sudan, North Korea, Iran and Syria.
-BS or MS Degree in interaction design (HCI, design, or a related field) or equivalent experience.
-4+ years of experience as one or multiple of the following: Information Architect, Interaction Designer, Interface Designer or Experience Designer.
-Demonstrate strong design skills, especially concerning workflow, information hierarchy, data visualization and typography.
-Demonstrate experience conducting user research and translating user research into design rationale.
-Understanding of design methodology and practices as well as design and prototyping tools such as Visio, Dreamweaver and Sketchflow.
Additional Skills/Knowledge in the following is also a plus
-Experience with Sketchflow.
-Significant programming experience.
-Understanding of capabilities and limitations of front-end Web and Desktop technologies.
-Worked on projects that are software or application related.
-Familiarity with educational, scientific, technical, or engineering products.
