Job description
Our new project takes us into interactive children’s publishing industry and will focus on building a robust application for consumers in this market. Ideal candidates will have a passion for technical direction, development and experimentation. He/She will be excited to work as a leader in a cross-functional team alongside creative and business team leaders. As we develop a new product for an evolving marketplace, our ideal candidate will adjust technical priorities in balance with the customer-focused environment.
The position will require you to prepare work plans, including timeline estimates to build application features and coordination of testing cycles with end users. This demands strong teamwork, self-organization and time management skills.
The position will transition from planning stages to build phase and require a candidate who can build many of the following components with scalable, agile development practices. A front-end developer and junior developer will be tasked with the user interface and some elements as delegated by this role, but both will look to this role as the primary developer of this application.

Basic Information:
5+ years experience in Application Development Able to attend bi-weekly meetings in person at either our Toronto or Halifax office Canadian citizenship Working and communicating in EnglishProficiencies required:
Either Ruby on Rails or PHP AJAX / HTML5 / CSS3 RDBMS SQL database design or alternative (NoSQL)Preferred Proficiencies:
iOS Mobile App Development Linux/Apache Configuration/Security Search Engine OptimizationExperience with the following work practices:
Cloud-based collaboration tools such as Google Apps Coordinating remote teams of contractors Usability Testing Source Control such as Git, SVN Bug tracking/resolution Proper code documentation Agile Development Process Scalable Design of standards based APIs such as XML, SOAPExperience integrating the following elements:
