Senior UI Designer
The senior user interface designer has extensive experience in conceptualizing, designing and specifying the execution of interactive experiences. Their design practice is grounded in both visual design and user experience design and builds on an understanding of the human factors of interacting with information. They are responsible for creating and executing design concepts as well as maintaining visual appearance, usability and brand continuity across digital platforms and devices. The senior user interface designer either executes or guides deliverables along the project path including user analysis, wireframing, prototyping, information architecture and interaction modeling, interface design and production specification. Depending on individual proclivities, additional skills may include persona development and writing.
Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct user requirements gathering and analysis.
- Produce user requirements specifications, personas, storyboards, scenarios, prototypes, and design specifications.
- Communicate research findings, conceptual ideas and detailed design rationale both verbally and visually.
- Design and specify user interfaces and information architecture using participatory and iterative design techniques including customer interviews, usability testing, and other forms of requirements discovery.
- Manage the interaction design process, drive decisions, track issues, and assist in estimating resource needs and schedules.
- Significantly contribute to an interdisciplinary team that includes other designers, project managers, strategists, and developers.
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to understand customer needs, motivations and behaviors and translate them into deliverables.
- Detail-oriented and highly developed organizational skills including the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong self-management skills as well as ability to work as a contributing member of a multi-discipline team.
- Ability to collaborate with other designers and developers to envision and iterate concepts.
- Strong knowledge of user interface design processes and methodology, particularly as applied to web-based sites and applications as well as mobile sites and applications.
- Demonstrated experience using web analytics data to inform design decisions.
- An understanding of major web analytics packages and SEO strategies is a plus.
- Advanced proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Omnigraffle, Fireworks, Photoshop, Illustrator.
Primary Job Qualifications
- BS/BA in Design, HCI or related degree preferred
- A minimum of 4-5 years’ experience in user experience design, information architecture, or interaction design.
