Internet CET (Alexandria, VA)

Internet CET is a small, growing start-up led by a team of youthful, savy, and driven professionals. We exist in a casual, but hard-working environment, which fosters creativity and the expression of ideas amongst our people. Risk-taking is encouraged; bureaucracy and/or office politics is not. We’re ramping up for a big feature output that will help us grow our large portfolio of online communities, so we need more talent to fulfill multiple development streams. Our headquarters is located in historic Olde Town Alexandria, VA, just a few steps from the town square.

This is a great opportunity for a talented developer to get involved at the ground floor and really make their mark. You will work on building externally-facing websites, bringing the most thorough and engaging product possible to the end-user. You will be involved from the first conception of new features through each iteration. We move very quickly and your opinions are demanded.

We are looking for a sharp, dedicated, and ambitious PHP/MySQL developer with an aptitude for design, to help us create next generation web platforms that work elegantly and perform flawlessly. The successful candidate must possess strong technical development, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, and must exhibit exceptional follow-through and attention to detail. You must be self-motivated and able to work independently, yet understand our shared vision and execute accordingly. You’ll be responsible for analyzing assigned tasks, translating business requirements, providing accurate work estimates, and ensuring that projects are delivered on time, to specification, and with a high degree of quality, in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment. Your duties will include documenting, optimizing, and re-factoring existing code and engineering processes, as well as taking ownership and helping to test, release, and maintain the code you write. And like everyone else on our team, you should be a great generalist constantly willing to learn new things and use the best tools for the job. Telecommuting/offsite will not work for this position.

Candidate Skills/Requirements

• Formal software engineering skills and real world experience developing, deploying, and maintaining web applications
• GUI and UI Design experience
• Experience in agile development practices and iteration cycles
• Knowledge and experience with HTML/DHTML/CSS
• PHP 4/PHP 5 proficiency
• Strong OO PHP skills
• Familiarity with MVC Frameworks
• Experience with JavaScript is highly recommended but not a requirement. This includes using the DOM, AJAX,and common JavaScript libraries.
• Linux experience a plus
• Comfortable designing, normalizing, implementing, optimizing, and managing transactional databases in a live, web-based environment
• Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree

Salary: $30-40/hr
