Junior/Graduate PHP Developer

Our Information Technology Department aspires to improve our services and working practices through latest technologies and innovation. We are currently looking for a Software Developer to join our team of experts. This exciting role will put you in the heart of our department and you’ll work alongside experienced Product Managers and System Analysts to create leading and cutting edge products and services.

A major responsibility of this role will be to support and advance the Brompton Dock system. This system has been specially designed to enable the registered users to gain access to a Brompton bicycles on a hire basis from a docking station. Currently there are over 24 docks situated in the main cities throughout the UK and your main responsibility will be to help establish this current model. Your primary skill set will be in PHP and ideally have ability in C++ as this system communicates with hardware components within each dock. You’ll be working alongside/supported by a Senior Software Developer.

Main duties:

• Get stuck in and learn hard

• Analysing user requirements

• Researching, designing and writing new and existing software programs

• Testing new programs and fault finding

• Creating technical specifications and test plans

• Maintaining systems by monitoring and correcting software defects

• Working closely with other staff, such as project managers, designers, developers, systems analysts, and sales and marketing professionals

• Investigating new technologies

• Continually updating technical knowledge and skills by attending in-house and/or external courses, reading manuals and accessing new applications

• Proactively look for ways to make all parts of Brompton better

Skills/Experience:

PHP and MySQL

LAMP/WAMP

• Ajax, JavaScript, JQuery, HTML5, CSS3

• Object-Orientated Programming Skills

• Good working knowledge of available standard frameworks (e.g. bootstrap) and open source solutions (e.g. Typo 3)

• Practical knowledge of testing methods

• Excellent written & verbal communication skills

• Excellent numeracy/arithmetic skills

• Be a able to work well within a team and have excellent communication skills

• Ideally knowledge of manufacturing principles and awareness of UX and service design best practices

Knowledge/Qualifications:

• BSc Computer Science/Software Engineering/equivalent or higher

• At least 3 years of programming experience (this can be in your bedroom or in industry)

• Ideally 6 months – 2 years industry experience

• Eligible to work in the UK

Personal Qualities:

• Creative approach to problem solving and detail orientated by nature

• Open-minded

• Has the capacity to divulge complex information and simplify through the use of technology

• The ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously

• A good team player and is able to build a rapport with people at all organisation levels

Additional duties:

• To attend training and meetings as and when required

• Any other jobs around the factory that may be deemed necessary
