Managing Director, Marketing Operations (New York City)

Position Summary

Teach For America seeks a managing director of marketing operations to lead the newly formed marketing operations team. This team will serve two important purposes – 1) act as global project managers for the marketing team, ensuring that the team effectively manages and prioritizes projects and 2) execute discrete, small-scale marketing projects for other Teach For America staff teams that do not have dedicated marketing support.

The managing director will work closely with the leaders on the marketing account, creative, and digital teams – and the marketing team’s senior leadership – to improve existing processes and develop new structures to improve the communication and workflow of the marketing team. S/he is responsible for prioritizing all the projects across the team, ensuring they are completed on time and on budget, as well as for managing the execution of one-off marketing projects for non-client national teams like Growth Strategy and Development, Alumni Affairs, Teacher Preparation Support & Development, and Diversity & Inclusiveness. The ideal candidate is a systems thinker with a passion for improving processes, deep knowledge of the development cycles of multi-channel marketing, and an exceptional judgment. The MD, marketing operations will report to the vice president of marketing and will manage three staff members.

Team Overview

The Marketing team strategically partners with our colleagues to help Teach For America meet its organizational and team-specific goals by:

Developing and sharing actionable insights about our various target audiences;

Delivering high-quality, innovative, multi-channel marketing solutions that represent the essence of our brand;

Driving awareness and intent to act among prospects, parents and potential donors; and

Empowering staff, corps members, alumni and allies to be effective stewards of the Teach For America brand and help foster their advocacy.

Primary Responsibilities

Develop the vision, goals and strategy for the operations team to ensure it is able to effectively serve its dual charge of managing the team-wide processes and owning discrete projects

Manage the team-wide project queue and develop a prioritization system that works well for the creative team and enables the entire marketing team to maximize its impact and meet client needs

Create new systems and protocols, with input from the creative team, digital, and account teams, to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and in a way that provides exceptional customer service and meets the needs of client teams, non-client teams, and the entire organization

Analyze current processes such as creative briefs, timelines, and request portals to determine how they can be improved and maximized

Manage, coach, develop and inspire a team of three full-time team members to meet ambitious goals and operate with a sense of excellence and urgency

Manage relationships with managing directors on the marketing account team, and other senior leaders on the marketing team – including the leads for, TFANet, and insights – to ensure marketing team can efficiently develop and deliver high impact marketing solutions

Serve as a project lead for one-off project requests for marketing team and manage team to service small-scale marketing requests and questions


Candidate Profile and Experience Prerequisites

Skills – demonstrated experience:

Exceptional strategic and critical thinking skills

Strong written and verbal communication

Deep knowledge of the development cycles of multi-channel marketing

solutions, including websites and other digital marketing assets

Ability to understand and respect the perspectives of others

Identifying opportunities; using data and sound judgment to prioritize actions

Building a successful team; managing team execution toward high-quality results

Working across multiple stakeholders on critical, time-sensitive projects

Experience working in a highly complex, matrix organization

Approach to Work

Education and Professional Experience

Bachelor’s degree required

Minimum of five years work experience; management experience strongly preferred

Previous operations experience required

Previous related marketing experience required

Knowledge of multi channel marketing required
