Front End Developer

A leading lifestyle media network is beefing up its internal development team, and they need a Front End Developer to work on some of their most popular brands.

They own some of the biggest names in lifestyle content, but you’ll be working specifically on their food and cooking properties. To score this gig, you’ll need to be a versatile dev with an Agile orientation, strong front end chops, and solid experience with sites and services hosted on Amazon Web Services or a similar PaaS. And hey, if you’re passionate about food and cooking, it wouldn’t hurt.

Nitty Gritty

This network’s food and cooking properties reach over 113 million users a month through digital and TV. Your work will support revenue growth for these brands, primarily by building and customizing components of the desktop and mobile experiences. This means doing some heavy lifting in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and even some work with Java and Adobe CQ.

As part of task and sprint planning, you’ll provide input on feasibility, technical solution design, and prioritization. You’ll collaborate with various stakeholders–including product, search, content–to ensure integrations and dependencies are thoroughly planned and communicated. And definitely expect to provide demos of your deliverables throughout a collaborative review process.

Speaking of collaboration, you’ll contribute to knowledge sharing by participating in brown bag sessions, an internal team blog, and drafting/updating internal wiki documentation. Last but not least, this is an Agile shop, so expect to build, release, and iterate quickly. This team also operates with a DevOps mindset. Team members work together and share responsibilities regarding cloud infrastructure, scalability, and automation.

Candidate Profile

You’re a seasoned Front End Developer who knows plenty about content management systems and web/app development. HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and AdobeCQ all have a place in your toolbox. You’ve got solid functional knowledge of jQuery and extJS, as well as experience integrating front end code with Java, PHP, JSP, or related languages. You know your way around databases using MySQL, Oracle, JSR 170, Apache Jackrabbit, and the like. If you’re not fluent in one or more of these languages, don’t sweat it. We’re more interested in a dev who’s eager to learn and grow, rather than one who checks all the boxes.

You’re definitely at home in an Agile environment. You love to collaborate, and you’re not too precious with your code. When you get constructive feedback, you don’t get snippy–you get better.

Inside Skinny

Killer dev chops are a must here, but a love of food and cooking–especially a knowledge of the media landscape surrounding it–will earn you an extra Michelin star.

Net-Net

These are huge media products with fanatically loyal fanbases. If you like the idea of your work being seen by millions, this is the gig for you.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, sexual orientation, veteran status, marital status, disability, or any other status protected by applicable law.
