Art Director – Digital (New York City)
Teach For America seeks an art director (digital) to play a critical role in creating and maintaining a consistent visual style that best represents our brand in all forms of digital marketing, including (but not limited to) our website, email, and online advertising. The art director (digital) will report to the creative director, and will work closely with members of the Marketing department’s digital, insights, and account teams to understand our internal clients’ goals and design creative to meet these goals.
The art director (digital) must have proven communication skills and design experience. This individual will have strong relationship building skills, the ability to coach other designers, and a track record of successfully working collaboratively across teams. S/he will have a deep understanding of the creative landscape and new technologies will ensure the creative team is incorporating industry best practices into its work, and will have experience in working with different types of clients to create breakthrough digital creative. Successful candidates will be knowledgeable about web design and be skilled in designing creative for digital media. The art director (digital) is accountable for the quality of the final creative product.

The Marketing team strategically partners with our colleagues to help Teach For America meet its organizational and team-specific goals by:
Developing and sharing actionable insights about our various target audiences;
Delivering high-quality, innovative, multi-channel marketing solutions that represent the essence of our brand;
Driving awareness and intent to act among prospects, parents and potential donors; and
Empowering staff, corps members, alumni and allies to be effective stewards of the Teach For America brand and help foster their advocacy.
Working with the creative director to conceptualize visual design for our main website and other marketing materials with digital delivery.
Elevate the design aesthetic of digital deliverables while ensuring overall quality of design and brand integrity.
Design to enhance our constituents’ online experience, with an understanding of how user experience and insights translate into design.
Oversee other designers’ work, and direct and mentor junior designers.
Collaborate with marketing team peers to create innovative, fresh, and effective creative solutions.
Produce final design comps from functional specifications and wireframes.
Interface with web and marketing team peers to deliver work on schedule.
Keep current on web design trends and techniques, and be an advocate for good design within the organization.
Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and other web tools, as well as Microsoft Office suite.
Expert in Typography.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem solving skills, thorough attention to detail.
Ability to meet tight deadlines.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
5-7 years of visual web design experience in an agency, studio or freelance environment.
A strong online portfolio demonstrating user-centered design solutions and strong visual design sense.
Degree in graphic design, interactive communications, or similar.
Well-versed in fundamental visual and interaction design principles.
Knowledge of current HTML/CSS best practices and web standards.
Familiarity and experience with social media platforms.
Experience designing for mobile platforms.
Experience with Agile development practices.
Experience leading design reviews and managing feedback.
Additional things we’d like to see:
Experience with print design.
An unhealthy obsession with typography, design, and the desire to mentor others.
Strong illustration skills (for icon and other design).
